Our hotel has been a part of the lives of many folks over the years, bringing different cultures together over warm hospitality, food, a south wing with glorious sunset views and a spectacular backdrop of the grand Ezulwini valley. Our Friar Tucks restaurant, which is located in a wine cellar designed room of redbrick, hanging lights and a small bar area, has been the restaurant of choice for continental cuisine in the city; hosting functions, dinner parties and lunches that have been both memorable and delicious. In the past few months however, the Friar Tucks hasn’t been operational as a dining venue, instead, we have been working on revamping it and turning it into a new restaurant called The Grill which opens this month.
We wanted to create a restaurant that was going to be an experience the minute you set foot in it. From the ambiance to the food itself, right down to bridging the gap between Swazi’s love for meat and not enough places that serve anything other than a traditional shisanyama (barbeque) Our intention with The Grill is to offer a flavourful feasting of a variety of meat and an urban grill house that makes the ideal meeting spot in the city. A few months ago, we ran a competition, asking our followers across our Facebook, Instagram and twitter platforms, to guess the name of a particular cut of steak and then to rename it with a vernacular twist. The cut happened to be a Tomahawk which two lovely locals named the Sagila steak and will be one of the signature meals served at the restaurant.
The Grill is an evolution of the Mountain Inn. It’s our cumulative years in the hospitality industry merging with our love for serving excellence at every hotel touchpoint. We want people to visit the grill and fall in love with it in its entirety. To enjoy succulent meat over good wine and great conversation while sitting on the patio in the warm summer heat. We want to immerse the visitors in a dining experience like no other and give them a place that’s so magical to be in that you can’t help but post and tag. The Grill opens this month and we are so eager to become Mbabane’s newest Meat (-ing) place.
