POMPANO Beach, FLA. (WSVN) – A gentleman was taken into custody right after he was included in a crash in Pompano Seashore even though making an attempt to flee from deputies in a stolen SUV, leaving a responding deputy wounded, authorities said.
Officials recognized the male as Ronwel Ocampo.
The incident took position at the chaotic intersection of East Atlantic Boulevard and North Federal Highway, Saturday night time.
Dashcam video showed cars and trucks sitting in site visitors as motorists waited to head north on U.S. 1.
A witness who spoke with 7News more than the cell phone described what transpired subsequent.
“First I noticed a law enforcement auto approaching on the improper side of the highway, designed a ideal, turned in entrance of the site visitors, blocked the intersection,” he mentioned.
Broward Sheriff’s Workplace deputies have been responding to a phone of a stolen SUV.
The dashcam video clip captured the white or light-coloured GMC SUV as it plowed into a further auto. The driver of the SUV then located himself caught in the suitable lane as deputies walked toward the car.
“I noticed guns drawn. I listened to a whole lot of screaming, ‘Get out of the automobile,’” said the witness. “I saw a bunch of law enforcement on foot approaching from at the rear of.”
A deputy smashed the driver’s facet entrance window, but that did not deter the motorist, who backed up, pulled forward and identified a way to speed by the intersection.
“I honestly thought I was going to see that guy’s existence more than. I can’t consider they did not destroy him,” said the witness, “because [that’s what usually happens] whenever there is that lots of law enforcement on foot all-around a car which is absolutely kind of out of management and anyone who plainly has no regard for the commands that they are supplying him.”
“There was very a couple of of them undercover cars and trucks, and they have been hooking and scheduling, you know? You can hear them coming,” claimed a different witness. “Who understands what’s in the vehicle, they never want to go to jail, they are making an attempt to get away.”
Deputies nabbed Ocampo about 11 blocks north, along the 1100 block of North Federal Highway.
One deputy endured minimal injuries from the subject’s motor vehicle.
Investigators reported the driver struck two motor vehicles whilst attempting to get away.
“I feel awful for other motor vehicles that now they have to devote their Easter weekend security likely through insurance policies statements and all the things else for some thing that they had nothing at all to do with,” claimed the witness. “Not only was their basic safety set at risk but home damage and just every thing else.”
Ocampo is staying billed with aggravated assault, aggravated battery on an officer, resisting arrest, aggravated fleeing and grand theft car.
He was previously out on bond for a preceding arrest, so now he’s staying held without having bond.
