Kicking off the festivities for this Sunday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Seashore, as common, was Thursday’s Extended Beach front Motorsports Walk of Fame induction ceremony on the west aspect of the Lengthy Beach Convention and Amusement Center off Pine Ave.
Two drivers – Redondo Seashore native Bill Auberlen and Italian fantastic Alex Zanardi – joined 33 some others whose medallions adorn the sidewalk there.
Auberlen, 53, is an IMSA driver who has gained extra races – 63 – in that collection than any one else. He twice was a class winner in Extensive Seashore in 2013 (GT) and 2015 (GTLM) and has 9 major-5 finishes there in 14 commences given that 1990. He’s also a two-time course winner at the 24 Hrs of Daytona.
He is nevertheless lively and will be racing this weekend on the streets of Extensive Beach.
Jim Michaelian, CEO of the Grand Prix Affiliation of Extensive Beach, sang his praises.

Auberlen recalled his first taste of the Grand Prix.

Auberlen spoke like he nearly couldn’t feel how things have turned out for him.
